About this Endowment

Don and Celine Von Raesfeld raised nine children from the family confines of Alviso Street, where three sons, Myron, Darryl, and Marty, each went through the fire science program at Mission College and became firefighters. Don, Sr. spent several decades working for the City of Santa Clara. He started in the Public Works department, then became a nationally recognized City Manager (1960-85) where he was instrumental in creating a blueprint for the City's success. He also dedicated his time serving as a city council member (1988-92).

Darryl Von Raesfeld spent 33 years with the San Jose Fire Department, including serving as chief from 2006 to 2010, when he retired. Marty Von Raesfeld, who worked for the Redwood City Fire Department for a period of time, and retired in 2015 after nearly 20 years as Santa Clara's fire marshal. Myron Von Raesfeld, who is best known for his work in the real estate business, also served as a first responder, having worked with the Oakland Fire Department in the 1980s. The three Von Raesfeld brothers (all Mission College Alumni) combined, have more than 60 years of public safety experience.
