The Saratoga Rotary Thompson Fund is named for Mrs. Eileen Mae Thompson, as it was
her generous gift to the Saratoga Rotary Charitable Foundation that established a
separate scholarship fund. Not yet eighteen years old in 1936, she arrived in San
Jose alone on a train from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Mrs. Thompson made her home
in Willow Glen with her husband Marcellus Thompson. She reitred as a Personnel Supervisor
with the United States Postal Service after a long and a successful career. Mrs. Thompson
included the Saratoga Rotary Charitable Foundation in her Estate Plan, with the stipulation
that the funds were to be available for undergraduate scholarships and a modest GPA
was to be achieved. She passed away in San Jose in 2010 at the age of 91. The Saratoga
Rotary Charitable Foundation has been administering scholarships from her initial
gift and gifts of others since 2011. This endowment fund was established with the
West Valley-Mission Foundation in 2022 to recognize students who have made contributions
to their school and community through their service and leadership.
We invite you to make a tax-deductible contribution to this fund. If you prefer to
donate by check, please indicate the fund in the check memo field, and mail to: West
