Established in October 2008 to honor Robert Brydon, one of the first and most beloved West Valley-Mission District Trustees and to benefit outstanding students with financial needs and community service involvements.
Longtime Campbell resident and West Valley-Mission Community College District Trustee, Robert Brydon made an indelible impact on the lives of students. Brydon was instrumental in creating West Valley and Mission Colleges.
In 1951, Brydon chaired the Citizen's Advisory Committee for Santa Clara Valley community colleges. Robert designed and campaigned for the formation of both West Valley and Mission Colleges. In 1963, he became the Vice Chairman of the founding Board of Trustees.
Robert canvassed the community personally prior to bond campaigns. He interviewed local residents, obtained and incorporated their interests and needs into the development of campuses and curriculum.
Robert Brydon "touched the lives of thousands of people with his visions," stated his wife, Joy Brydon. Robert passed away in the year 2000 at the age of 82.
The Robert Brydon Scholarship Endowment was created by his family and honors Robert's tremendous leadership of the West Valley-Mission Community College District.
The perpetual scholarship awards benefit outstanding students at West Valley or Mission Colleges who demonstrate financial need and community service involvement. Awards will be made to students continuing their education at Mission or West Valley Colleges.
