About this Endowment
Established in 2013 to provide scholarships for deserving women currently enrolled
at West Valley College.
Miles Rankin known as "Mr. Saratoga" for his tremendous community leadership and involvement
graced the West Valley-Mission Colleges Foundation with his generosity and volunteerism
over the years. Rita Boren, his life partner, was a longtime Foundation Board member,
bond campaign leader, and advocate for re-entry women at West Valley College. As part
of his estate plan, Miles paid tribute to Rita with a donation to establish a permanent
scholarship endowment in Rita's honor.
The Rita Boren Scholarship Endowment was established with Miles' passing in 2013.
It recognizes Rita as a consummate businesswoman who built a tremendous career in
the real estate industry.
Rita attended West Valley College as a student at the Campbell and Saratoga campuses.
In 1968, she transferred to San Jose State University where she obtained a B.S. degree
in business with an emphasis in finance. She was a re-entry student with three children
at the time. She now advocates for other women attending West Valley College and views
the college as a tremendous asset for those seeking a new career or brushing upon
skills that could help advance their current progression.
Rita said, "As a Foundation Board Member, I became aware of how well-managed the West
Valley-Mission Foundation is. It's known for its successful investments and carrying
out donor wishes. I know a gift of this size can make a measurable difference in the
lives of scholarship recipients."
We invite you to make a tax-deductible contribution to this fund. If you prefer to
