Established in September 2009 to provide a resource for scholarships to benefit students
intending to enter the field of engineering.
Mrs. Lenore Mills and her son, Curtis Mills, made a thoughtful provision in their
estate plans to permanently benefit students at West Valley and Mission College by
providing scholarships for outstanding students. Those scholarships are to be awarded
to students who intend to enter the field of engineering. Students who have completed
pre-requisite classes for engineering and earned strong grade point averages will
be considered for the Mills Endowment Scholarships.
Lenore and Curtis resided in the Salinas Valley. The mother and son both experienced
personal hardships and challenges. Their demonstrated interest in community college
education, public radio and the Salvation Army highlighted their belief that the advantages
and benefits of society should be available to all citizens.
By designating the West Valley-Mission Foundation in their Living Trust, Lenore and
Curtis took proactive steps to ensure that students from economically disadvantaged
and diverse populations also could gain entrance into four-year universities as engineering
majors.
The Lenore and Curtis Mills Endowment will assist generations of West Valley and Mission
College students reach their full potential and accomplish their goals in the field
of engineering.
