Established in February 2011 to provide a perpetual scholarship award for re-entry students at West Valley College who demonstrate strong academic focus and desire to succeed.
The Katarina Pivk Re-Entry Scholarship Endowment was established in February 2011 to provide perpetual scholarships for outstanding WVC re-entry students who have completed requirements for a WVC Associate's degree, achieved a minimum 3.0 grade point average, and are transferring to a four-year institution following graduation. This endowment recognizes the memory of Katarina Pivk who was a woman of many talents.
Mrs. Katarina Pivk was born in Yugoslavia on April 25, 1919. She didn't have much formal high-school education, yet she was full of wise insights and possessed many talents. Katarina sewed all her children's clothing, prepared multi-cultural foods, baked, and spoke many languages. She encouraged her five children to pursue a formal education and become self-sufficient, successful entrepreneurs.
Katarina was honored with the Yugoslavian President's Mother of the Year Award. She loved her role as a mother and a wife. She raised five very well mannered children and maintained a very organized household. Her children were also recognized for their many achievements.
Mrs. Pivk led a full life and showed tremendous tenacity, perseverance and courage throughout World War II and her entire life. She was a loving, happy woman with a very warm smile that brightened many lives around her.
The Katarina Pivk Scholarship Endowment will assist re-entry students of West Valley College who are completing transfer requirements to a four-year college.
