The James & Vincee Viso & Family Sports & Wellness Complex was established by James "Jim" Viso in 2015 to provide Mission College with a place where students, staff, and their families can improve their personal health and well-being, as well as study for kinesiology and other health-related fields.
Jim was born in San Jose, CA on February 14, 1930. The son of the late Charles S. and Jessie D. Viso, he grew up in Santa Clara, CA and graduated from Lincoln High School. In 1949, Jim married Vincee, the love of his life, after eloping with her at the age of seventeen. Jim found his start bagging goceries at his family's local market in Santa Clara, after which he went on to become a businessman, owning both James J. Viso Engineering and El Camino Self Storage. Jim was also a former mayor and councilman of Santa Clara, with the Viso Court in the city being named after him.
Jim and Vincee shared 62 beautiful years together and have raised six children during that time. Jim and Vincee are survived by their children, Charles, Maggie, Jessica, Vanessa, Joseph, and Jason. They are also survived by their grandchildren Ashley, Victoria, James, CJ, Jeff, Greg, Tyler, Travis Smith, Vincent, Travis Kull, Erich, and Enzo, as well as ten great-grandchildren.
It is through Jim's love for the Mission City and his generosity that the Family Sports & Wellness Complex stands today at Mission College. The well-designed complex serves as home for various sports-related activities such as weight training, exercise classes, and even a dance movement studio. Additionally, the complex contains lockers, meeting rooms, and offices for supporting faculty. The center also includes a public plaza, a tennis complex, and a gymnasium for competitive and non-competitive sports.
All individuals, regardless of ability level, are encouraged to utilize this campus resource to invest in their personal health and to improve their physical well-being.
