David Schor was born in New York City on February 29, 1916 and attended DeWitt Clinton
High School and City College of New York. He started the first Pan American Club at
the school and received an acknowledgement from Eleanor Roosevelt for his efforts.
After receiving his Bachelor's Degree, David worked most of his life in the textile
business. In 1946, he took his wife and 2 small children to live in Cuba where they
lived for three years. David was fluent in Spanish and he used his language skills
in his extensive work experience and travels in Latin America. Returning to New York
in 1949, he and his family spent several years there, and then moved to Los Angeles,
California to raise his children in the warmth of the California Sun. In 1959, he
and his family moved to Caracas, Venezuela, where he worked as executive vice president
for a major textile firm. He spent 17 years in Venezuela. Upon retiring at the age
of 60, he and Marcia moved to Los Altos where he remained until his death. His mind
was always active and his love of travel continued for many years. He always felt
that if he could get a good lean corned beef sandwich, life was worth living. He was
buried on April 1, 2003 at Los Gatos Memorial Park on the anniversary of his wife
Marcia's burial 17 years before.
His daughter, Joni Johnson, was instrumental in the development of the ACCESS program
at Mission College and was the director of the program for the first four years. She
endowed this scholarship in her father's honor.
