Established in July 2009 by business partner David Davila to provide scholarship awards for Mission College students who have undocumented citizenship status and who may not be eligible for traditional financial aid.
Mission College has always have been a place of opportunity and promise for students from Silicon Valley. Globalization and the corresponding competitiveness have provided incentive for students from other countries to apply to Mission College as well. These students from other cultures bring a richness and a unique perspective to Mission College and their work in Silicon Valley businesses.
Students who have undocumented citizen status are often struggling to make ends meet to stay in school. Textbooks and educational supplies make up nearly fifty percent of these students financial burden. Because of their citizenship status, they are not eligible for traditional financial aid.
During July 2009, Silicon Valley business partner David Davila launched the Silicon Valley Business Partners Scholarship Endowment and challenged others in the local business community to follow suit and help address this under served population of students in need.
Companies can give corporate and employee donations to the Silicon Valley Business Partners Scholarship Endowment is perpetual and will provide a permanent revenue stream from annual interest and earnings.
Contributions in the amount of $1,000 or more will be recognized during an annual reception with the Mission College President and the Annual Scholarship
One hundred percent of all Silicon Valley Business partners Scholarship Endowment funds will be permanently restricted to benefit students with undocumented status. The scholarship recipients will undoubtedly play an important role in the future economy of Silicon Valley.
