Established in August 2009 to provide scholarships benefitting outstanding Child Development
or Education majors attending West Valley College. Amanda Hope Lyons was a beloved
Child Development major attending West Valley College. She was nineteen years old
and full of enthusiasm and life when she began her student job in the Child Development
Center at West Valley College. After her unexpected passing, many children, her friends
and family provided a loving tribute to the beautiful, vibrant young lady who touched
their hearts and lives. More and more young children are spending time in child care
settings. Research has shown that this early childhood period is critical to future
learning and growth. Amanda especially loved young children and she influenced their
intellectual and emotional development as well as their self esteem. She provided
child care in her community and at West Valley College. Amanda's family and friends
created the Amanda Hope Lyons Scholarship Endowment to pay tribute to her ideals and
interest in early child development. Annual interest and earnings from the endowment
fund will be used to provide scholarships for outstanding child development or education
majors at West Valley College. These Amanda Hope Lyons scholarship recipients and
their resulting careers will impact the quality of early childhood programs for generations
to come.
