This holiday season, give the gift of reading to the children who attend our Child Development Centers at West Valley and Mission Colleges.

It's no secret that early exposure to books, storytelling, and imaginative play is crucial to the cognitive and emotional development of young children. You can help us build a stronger foundation for literacy while spreading holiday cheer. Between now and December 17th, donate new children's books (ages 0-6) and stuffed animals that we can give as holiday gifts to the children in our programs.

Our two Child Development Centers provide consistent care to nearly 100 students Monday through Friday throughout the year. The West Valley College center serves children 2 to 6 years old and the Mission College center serves children 6 weeks to 6 years old. Your contribution will brighten the holidays for the children in our care, while enriching their early learning experiences and fostering a lifelong love of reading and learning.

"The majority of the children we serve come from low-income families and are the children of our students. This holiday season, we really want to make sure that every child gets to unwrap a gift with a book or two of their own. We hope our community can come together to make the holidays special for these families." says Anne Horgan, Child Development Center Program Director.

How You Can Help:

  • Picture books, board books, rhyming books, and interactive books are particularly valuable for young learners. Donations of a variety of books will help us offer a wide range of reading experiences for children at different developmental stages.
  • Soft, child-friendly stuffed animals provide children with comfort while encouraging imaginative play, storytelling, and social-emotional learning.

All donations are tax-deductible. You can drop off your unwrapped gifts at the following locations anytime before December 17th. If you prefer to make a cash donation to support this holiday book drive, you can donate online or with a check payable to West Valley-Mission Foundation (write "CDC book drive" in the check memo field).
